GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION

The commune is located at the extreme south-east of the Department of Orne, near Theil on Huisne and of Nogent le Rotrou ( Eure & Loir). While depending on the Low-Normandy Area, the history of St Hilaire is related to its membership of the Perche.
Saint Hilaire sur Erre is to 60 km of Alençon, le Mans and Chartres. Access Océane motorway to la Ferté Bernard : 25 km and in Luigny : 25 km. The railway Paris-Brest passes to the south of the commune; stations with la Rouge and Nogent le Rotrou.
On the administrative level, Saint Hilaire sur Erre forms part of the District of Mortagne and depends on the Canton of Theil sur Huisne. The surface of the Commune is 1 512 ha. With the last census of 1990, Saint Hilaire counted 463 inhabitants.
Located by 48°18 ' 26"N and 0°45 ' 13"E, the sundials of Saint Hilaire advance 3 minutes on those of Greenwich.
The foot of the church is to 128 m with the top of the sea level and Saint Hilaire is staged of 96 m in Monguerrière up to 188 m in Mutte.

ECONOMIC LIFE

Saint Hilaire has experienced for several years a relative development of his economic activities. In addition to employment, those bring a greater ease of use between the inhabitants
TRADE : a Bakery-Pastry making, a Butcher-Porkbutcher, a Coffee-Restaurant, a Delicatessen and a co-operative of trade of bovines.
CRAFT INDUSTRY : a General Company of Building, two Cabinetmakers and a Printer.
INDUSTRY : (Industrial Park of 6 ha, at the edge of the C.D.11) the Company Sept-Industry employs 100 people.
AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITY : 15 seats of exploitation (agricultural surfaces: cereals 452 ha, oleo-protéagineaux 20 ha, fodder crops 121 ha and natural meadows 558 ha), a Fishfarmer (salmons and trouts) with the Mill of Bouté and a Market-gardener in Small Orclose.

TEACHING 

The school of St Hilaire, since 1974, formed part of an Inter-commune Teaching Regrouping with St Agnan sur Erre. The I.T.R. includes 4 classes.
With St Hilaire: 3 classes : Small nursery school and average section ; Nursery school great section and C.P.; C.E.1. and C.E.2.. With St Agnan: 1 class C.M.1. and C.M.2.
The S.i.v.o.s. (Inter-commune Trade union with School Vocation) was created at the same time as the I.T.R. It organizes the school transport of the pupils of the R.P.I. and of the college (free transport for the primary educations and paying for the college).
It proposes a free nursery open apart from the hours of class of Monday at Friday of 7 H at 18. 30. It finances the school stationery of the I.T.R. and of the English meetings for the pupils of C.M.2. A municipal school restaurant makes it possible to the children to on the spot lunch.

ENVIRONMENT

It is a corner of greenery where runs a river.....
With Cœur of the Perche, St Hilaire mixe contrasts : majestic valley of Huisne and its wet Meadow, Soft Hills of forests or corns; its ground argilo-limestone leaves a traditional architecture white stone and tiles.
To preserve these attractions, the commune follows a policy of integration of constructions in the landscape (to consult the Plan of Occupation of the Ground in Town hall), of replanting of regional trees and water treatment worn. Where there exists, connection with the sewer is obligatory and must be required in Town hall.
Quite useful, but sometimes a little indicators, the fairy electricity and its colleague the telephone make disappear their lines in 1996.

In addition, in order to reconcile economic development and environmental protection, the commune adheres to the Regional Natural reserve of the Perche of which it signed the Charter.

TOURISM

Beyond its natural assets, Saint Hilaire contains splendid Percheron manors of the XIV2nd to the XVI2nd among which Epinay and Malaise appear in the additional inventory of the historic buildings.
The old communal paths were given in state by the voluntary ones and are now maintained by the community. In continuity with the common neighbors of St.Agnan and Préaux, they form a unit marked out for the hikers of all ages.
The municipality also proposes to the tourists a campsite ** open of April 1 to October 31 and two surfaces of picnic.
While pikes and fish white play about in Huisne, trouts and chars defy the fisherman in Erre.

WORSHIPS

 
Devoted to Saint Hilaire (bishop of Poitiers at the IVth century), the church is of Romance origin of the XIth, altered to the XVIth (carries rebirth to the additional inventory of the historic buildings) and increased in neo-gothic to the XIXth.
It depends on the parish Sainte Madeleine au Perche whose two priests reside respectively at the presbyteries of Nocé : Maurice Lassalle (02.33.73.41.09) and of Berd'huis : Roger Maillot (02.33.83.05.29).
 

ALLOTMENT " LE VERGER"

In the vicinity immediate of the borough, the Municipality engaged the construction of an allotment. This one includes three sections of which a first of 13 batches; a sector is reserved for rental constructions. Its realization will be programmed by taking account of the requests.
The batches are 482 to 772 m2 at the price of 75,00F T.T.C. the m2.
In the center of the district, an adventure playground for the children is in the course of plantation.
